Does "web based" always means the same thing?: Whilst many products claim to be web based, are there differences between products?

Beware, there are differences! Some products will claim to be internet based but they may still require you to have software installed locally. This has implications for you in terms of maintenance, installation and costs. For those products that are not totally web-based, there will be a restriction on accessibility to your data. 

A fully web-based system can be accessed from any device with a browser anywhere in the world (assuming you can connect to the internet!). The key question to ask providers is if you can access the database from any device, anywhere.
